Mitchell Wright, Intern

I am a counseling intern currently completing my clinical experience to become a licensed clinical mental health counselor and clinical addictions specialist.  I am finishing my Master of Science in Clinical Counseling at East Carolina University. Originally from the southern Outer Banks of North Carolina, I am thrilled to now call Philadelphia my new home. Drawing from my background in the health and wellness industry, I hold valuable experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds with unique needs. In my work as a personal trainer, I focus on addressing body image issues by helping clients unravel the internal beliefs and external influences that contribute to a negative body image. I teach clients to love and appreciate their bodies by reframing body image through a health perspective rather than an aesthetic perspective.  I am dedicated to assisting individuals cultivate a positive self-concept, which can be related to promoting body positivity.

At my college counseling center, I have worked with young adults, assisting them in navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, substance use, identity development, and interpersonal relationships, both in individual and group settings. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals explore the intersection of human sexuality and gender identity in the relationships they have with themselves and others. My goal is to support LGBTQ+ individuals in their identity development and help them manage experiences related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, interpersonal patterns, and substance use.  Additionally, I have a passion for sex therapy based concerns. I firmly believe in establishing a strong therapeutic bond and fostering a collaborative relationship to ensure that individuals achieve the most benefit from therapy.
