Maria Buxton, MEd

Hello all! My name is Maria (she/they), and I am a pre-licensed professional counselor and recent graduate of Temple University’s counseling psychology master’s program with a mental health track. While I originate from Massachusetts, Philadelphia has been my home since 2017. I am grateful to give back to the community by serving as a professional counselor and therapist. I have worked with queer and genderqueer clients, polyamorous and ENM individuals, neurodivergent individuals, and those struggling with anxiety, depression, body image, and positive self-regard to name a few.

I continue to feel pulled to serve the LGBTQ+ population as well as those struggling with identity development, self-belief, agency, coping skills, etc. My approach incorporates kindness and integrity while also examining context from a multicultural and trauma-informed lens. I emphasize a “whole picture” mentality in the therapy space, meaning I work with you to connect the dots from past to present in order to better create a safe and secure future. Whatever you are facing, I am here to listen and provide support as long as you need. Should you choose to embark on the therapeutic journey with me, expect moments of lighthearted banter and, for virtual clients, some interruptions from a curious and visually-impaired cat!
