Sara Mairs, LCSW, MEd

About My Clients

I believe in providing a safe, non-judgmental, sex positive space for my clients. Some of my areas of interest with couples and individuals include anxiety, body positivity, codependency, desire discrepancy, genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder in ova/vulva having persons, grief and loss, infertility, pregnancy/postpartum, kink/BDSM, LGBTQIA+ identities, navigating gender identity, neurodiversity, polyamory relational Issues, relationship related grief and sexual dysfunction.

My Background and Approach

My orientation is client centered, systems based, feminist, peppered with cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and attachment-based therapy. I tend to encourage my clients to face patterns that no longer serve them and make a collaborative effort to create tools that will allow you to navigate through stressors when they arise. These strategies will allow for you to safely experience your emotions during times of distress and will help you build resilience as well as tolerance. I attend trainings that teach leading edge techniques. We will address whatever issues may arise in the therapeutic process, discuss each issue, and we’ll find ways to cope more effectively.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Understanding the importance of a therapeutic relationship also means knowing the importance of what each person, be it client or their therapist brings to their space. I am white, non-binary, queer, kinky, polyamorous, and neurodivergent. Outside of my time as a therapist as well as training, I enjoy creating mixed media art, gardening, traveling, attending EDM festivals, creating elaborate costumes, and hanging out with my two dogs. I am passionate about body positivity, infertility, sexual freedom, and addressing oppressive systems in and out of the office.
