Maria Buxton, MEd, LAPC

Hello all! My name is Maria (she/they), and I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor with a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Temple University. I’ve called Philadelphia home since 2017, and I’m grateful to give back to the community by offering support as a therapist. I specialize in supporting queer and genderqueer individuals, those in polyamorous or ethically non-monogamous relationships, neurodivergent individuals, and those working through self-esteem, executive functioning, and attachment concerns.

My passion lies in working with the LGBTQ+ population as well as folks navigating identity development. ‘Identity development’ encompasses a wide range of experiences, such as navigating relational-cultural concerns (ethnoracial identity, sexuality, gender, religion, etc.), aligning actions with personal values, fostering secure attachment, etc. Through psychosomatic work, we can address these experiences to help us maintain healthy relationships with our internal and external worlds.

My approach is grounded in kindness and integrity, while examining context from a multicultural, trauma-informed, and whole-picture lens. This means I work with you to connect dots from past to present, in order to help curate a fulfilling future. Should you choose to embark on the therapeutic journey with me, I am ready to listen, support, and empower for as long as you need.
